Fragrance Story
Amber often conjures the image of the golden gemstone obtained from fossilized tree resin that usually captures plant and animal matter in its formation. But Amber perfume is a bit different. It obtains its name from the early and legendary perfume ingredient called Ambergris.
In the early 18th century, Ambergris was one of the most lucrative items along the trade route. Although romantic in its history, it’s a bit grotesque in reality. Ambergris was obtained from the intestine of the now-endangered male sperm wale, and invoked a deep musky animalistic essence. Needless to say, Ambergris is not produced in modern times. Although modern day “Amber” derives its name from Ambergris, it is dissimilar to the original perfume ingredient in many ways. Amber spurred an era of fragrances with a musky vanilla base that are characterized as spicy, fiery, and bold.
